No matter the situation we find ourselves in this Thanksgiving day (whether good or bad), we have so much for which we should be thankful. Let's Go to Heaven

We have one more week to go in our study on Heaven. In our final lesson this coming Sunday, we will be talking about the Eternal City and its citizens. Hope you can make it!
Our next series will be based on certain characters in the Bible - alternating between the Old Testament and New Testament. The first character that I plan to teach on is Joseph: Man of Integrity. I am excited about what the Lord is laying on my heart for this series. My goal is to take what the Bible tells us about these men and women of God and apply it to our lives today.

One Habit Every Child Must Learn

If you want to save your children a lot of pain and suffering as they grow up, there’s one habit they must learn. This habit will help them avoid financial problems, many relational problems, and a large number of health problems. But it will do a lot more than help them avoid problems. It will also help them become far more successful in their occupation and relationships.

What one habit can possibly do all this? It is called delayed gratification. Unfortunately, not many people today understand what this is or how to make it a habit. Delayed gratification is the opposite of instant gratification. Most of us know exactly what that is. Our society is built on instant gratification. Advertising demands you make a decision right now. Restaurants have drive-thrus so you don’t have to wait. And even our fireplaces light up with the push of a button. No more kindling, logs, and matches.

Not that all of these things are bad. Some are wonderful. But it’s so difficult to know when it’s best to gratify ourselves and when not to. We get sucked into the world so easily that we don’t even realize it until we’re in debt, alone, and dying from a preventable disease.

Unfortunately, delaying gratification is a habit that’s completely foreign to children. They’re born demanding what they want. And they learn early to cry and even scream when they don’t get it. And today, few of them are taught to do otherwise. So most adults expect instant satisfaction of all their wants.

The earlier you can train your children to delay spending money on what they want, eating what tastes good but has no nutritional value, and adopting habits that may feel good but don’t benefit the mind (video games), body (such as smoking), or soul (sin), the better off they’ll be as they grow up.

We are nearly complete with our series on Heaven. Yesterday we reviewed the present Heaven and discussed the different resurrections, the Rapture and the Millennial Kingdom. This coming week we will begin to wrap up our study with a discussion on the eternal Heaven. Our lesson will come primarily from Revelation 20 & 21. (This will probably take us two weeks.)

Discerning Our Calling from God

How God Makes Fishermen

"Come, follow Me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." - Matthew 4:19

Our calling has three distinct stages, which we can see in the lives of many called before us, to become mature fishers of men who greatly impact God's Kingdom. First, there is the gestation period. This is the development stage of our lives. It may involve years of normal work experiences. You may be a Christian during this time, or you may be following after worldly success as a non-Christian. Paul spent years in religious and political training, persecuting believers most of his early life. Moses spent years in the court of Pharaoh and 40 years tending flocks in the desert. Jesus spent 33 years living at home and working in His father's carpentry business. However, all these years were part of their preparation.

Next is the crisis stage. Sooner or later, God calls you into relationship with Him. For many, like Paul, it comes through dramatic encounters like being knocked off a horse, blinded and spoken to personally by God. Some people are more difficult than others to reach and so require this level of crisis. This is a time when God requires major changes so that you follow Him fully. It can be a time in which God harnesses years of experience for a new life purpose. Paul's earthly experiences would be used in his calling to the religious and political leaders of his day. For Moses, the burning bush experience would begin his journey in which he would discover his ultimate calling after years of preparation. For Peter, it was his denial of Jesus three times that allowed him to face his shallow commitment to Christ. For Jesus, it was the cross. These were the benchmark turning points for men who made an impact on their world.

Last is the fruit-bearing stage. In it, God's power is manifested in your life like never before. God takes all your experiences and uses them to build His Kingdom in and through your life. Your obedience to this final call results in fruitfulness you could never imagine without the long preparation process. For Abraham, it resulted in becoming the father of many nations. For Paul, it resulted in bringing the gospel to the Gentiles. And for Peter, it meant becoming a foundational leader for the early Christian Church. For Jesus, it was salvation for the entire world.

What does God want to achieve through your life? God has a plan that is so incredible you cannot comprehend it. It requires only that you love Him and follow Him. Then you will become fishers of men like the world has never known.

Joyous News from The Whitfields!

Good Morning to all!

I never was one to let grass grow under my feet! It's a long story, however, the short version is we I went into labor on Saturday morning at 8:15 am with no warning! We had to call the ambulance and get a faster ride to the hospital! Needless to say one paramedic thinks adoption is a great option! We arrived at the hospital at 9:15 am and I delivered in what looked like a storage room at 9:25 am! Everyone is great and very healthy! We checked out of the hospital and arrived home Sunday around 4pm!
